In what situations would you use the phrase "Let’s call it a day"?

umm. there are about two situations. first situation is, when very important issue is finished.(well resorved) co-worker feeling happy and relief. so senior of co-worker is saying "Let’s call it a day!" and we are laught and good mood. second situation is, when there isn't much time until work. remained many work, but don't finished today. so senior of co-worker is saying "Let’s call it a day!", so this day is finished, but we work very hard on next day.

second situation is, when there isn't much time until work.
>> The second situation is when there isn’t much time left to work.
remained many work, but don't finished today.
>> There is still a lot of work left, but it can’t be finished today.
so senior of co-worker is saying "Let’s call it a day!", 
>> So the co-worker’s senior says, 'Let’s call it a day!'
so this day is finished, but we work very hard on next day.
>> So we end the day, but we work very hard the next day.
