Most of my friends all in similar age with me. I think it's because I can only see my peers in my environment now and similar ages have similar interests. Sometimes age doesn't matters to become a friend especially when they have same concerns to share. However, in some cases it matters because just being in a similar age consequentially brings lots of things that are common. It also gives internal stability in the beginning of building a relationship. Having more things to share and comfort let the conversation to be continued. And it gives each other an impression to expect next meeting, which leads to becoming a friend when meetings persist.
Also most of the people are more used to dealing with there peers. So that people tend to easily try becoming a friend with people in similar age compare to a person with the same condition but big age difference.
Therefore I think it's not impossible to become a friend with people with big age difference but it's much harder than with peers.
