I believe credibility is the biggest problem when moving oversea. Since I moved to a different country with no previous history and record, I constantly need to prove myself. I need to prove to landlords that they can rent out the flat. I need to prove to the employers that I can work diligently so they can sponsor the visa even without having a diploma in the UK. I need to prove to government authorities that I will pay the bills without any delay. Even though I lived in the UK for over two years, I still do not hold enough credibility. This is because I do not hold permanent residences or citizenship here, so I lack trust. For example, I am moving to a different flat and it is my third time moving to the UK. Therefore, I thought it would be easier compared to previous times. However, I still had to submit references from my previous landlords to prove I would be faithful enough to pay rent and maintain descent house conditions. Also, I had to pay rent at least 6 months in advance.
Thank you for this Aciel! I understand that most landlords probably had terrible experiences with previous tenants so they come up with this strict policies or requirements. However, don't the real estate agents/brokers have a record of your renting history that they could show to the new landlord? Or every property is being handled by a different real estate agent or company? Also, I disagree with the demand of your current landlord. Kicking you out from your current home when you have not finished the agreed duration in the contract and not even paying you back the money for the remaining months. You landlord owe you those remaining months of rent. Good luck there. When disaster rains, it pours. I do believe when blessing comes, it also pours. Fighting!
