In Korea, it is not common to ask difficult requests among coworkers or friends. That's why I rarely ask difficult requests from friends or colleagues. In particular, borrowing or lending money within the workplace is strictly prohibited. Money transactions between friends often end up damaging the relationship between friends. Nevertheless, coworkers and friends sometimes ask me to lend them money. I have never accepted such a request. And Korean workplaces have numerous evaluation systems for determining employees' promotions and salaries. Such an evaluation system must be so fair that capable and high-performing employees should be promoted. But many employees ask their bosses for promotions. I refuse most such requests. However, when I refuse, my relationship with my juniors often worsens. So, even when I refuse, I have to be very considerate so as not to make my juniors feel bad. In any case, it is very painful to receive requests from friends that are difficult for me to grant.
