In South Korea a people can be entitled for a compensation if they are wrongfully convicted and jailed. This law is outlined in the Korean Constitution (Article 28) which stipulates that people can claim compensation to address the damage caused by wrongful imprisonment and trial. The amount is calculated based on the various factors such as type and duration of incarceration, losses incurred during the imprisonment and the psychological suffering caused. Personally, I strongly agree that there must be compensation to pay back the period that was lost because of the mistake by government authorities. However, I believe that the procedure must be simplified. Current law requires these cases to go through court cases which can take several months minimum and can be burdensome to the people who have already gone through jail time and lost their livelihood. Accordingly, I believe the deliberation process must be handled swiftly to compensate the victims quickly.
