I think it is advantageous for young people to become student-athletes.
First, student-athletes are often subjected to physical and mental stress. Intense training and competition place a significant burden on the body, increasing the risk of injury. Injuries can shorten an athletic career and have long-term negative effects on health.
Second, student-athletes often rely on their athletic identity, which can hinder their exploration of other interests or career paths. Young adulthood is a crucial time for discovering oneself through diverse experiences, and the life of a student-athlete can limit these opportunities. Consequently, after their athletic careers end, they may face identity confusion or struggle to adapt to society.
