>> "It" is used to non-human subjects, situations or abstract concepts.
examples: It is a cat. (animal) , It is raining.(weather), It is difficult.(situation), 
2. Is it okay to use preposition in front of interrogative like the above question?
>> Is is acceptable to use prepositions in front of intterogatives but it is considered informal, but it is more widely used because it sounds more natural.
example: informal: Where are you from? 
                 formal: From where are you?
