How can music help with motivation during a workout?

Sometimes I imagine a movie without background music. When I watch a horror movie, I get scared, when I watch a sad movie, I secretly shed tears, and when I watch a funny movie, I laugh without realizing it. These emotions may be due to the scenes in the movie or the acting of the actors, but in reality, the background music of the movie plays a big role. When I listen to sad music, I feel sad, and when I listen to happy music, I feel good. A movie wouldn't be really fun if it didn't have background music. Of course, music plays a big role when exercising. I always listen to fun and exciting music when I run or ride a bike. Then, without even realizing it, I feel energized and can run or ride a bike harder and longer. Also, when I exercise while listening to music, I enjoy it and don't feel bored. How much less fun would it be if I couldn't listen to music while exercising? I believe that the role of music during exercise is no less than that of a human coach.
