Based on the idea that the public has the right to know, media tend to report information in full transparency. I believe that it is readers’ responsibility to be opinionated, so media coverage must not be biased and has all available information. However, this full disclosure has side effects of retaliation or secondary victimization. Therefore, there needs to be efforts to deal with controversial and sensitive cases. For example, informants to be thoroughly protected and reporters should fully verify the information. Many news agencies include this click to open rate in the reporters’ performance assessment which lead many journalists to come up with sensational reports. However, if this report comes with lack of verification, it can stir up cancel culture and discrimination. News agencies correct the false information afterward which the public pay little attention to. Accordingly, I believe the media should release information that it can fully verified and guarantee anonymity.
