For several years now, the Korean government has been making efforts to ensure that the disabled, the elderly, and pregnant women do not experience any inconvenience in accessing various buildings or transportation facilities.
To be more specific, the Korean government has introduced a barrier-free certification system.
According to this system, all buildings and transportation facilities must be equipped with facilities for the disabled and the elderly.
For example, thresholds must be removed from all doors, and dedicated parking lots, restrooms, and Braille information signs must be installed.
In the subway, facilities are also installed to facilitate easy access for the disabled and the elderly, and a representative example is wheelchair lifting facilities.
Therefore, disabled people who use wheelchairs can freely ride the subway.
