Ordinary Korean men, including middle-class people like me, do not have ceremonial formal wears other than their everyday formal attires.
As in the movies, it is only some top-class Korean men who attend parties wearing fancy formal wears such as tuxedos.
Ordinary Korean men wear suits to work in offices and attend official events and ceremonies.
And at funerals, it is customary to wear a black suit or one that is as modest as possible.
Meanwhile, unlike men, Korean women wear somewhat more modest clothes in the office, but at parties, weddings, and ceremonies, they wear colorful, long dresses like in movies.
They put on their best dresses, makeup and accessories.
