First of all, you should learn the minimum about the place to go, such as transportation to and from the place, restaurants to top off your visit with a fancy dinner, and a must-go to make unforgettable memories. And, you need to give extra cautious to it if you go out of downtown which has almost everything you need. You can have to carry some gadgets with you, such as a compass, map, umbrella, or some food or water to have.
Switching gear, when you go to a place where you have never been to, you also need to consider who you're accompanying. For example, if you go on a hike with infants or toddlers, you can take a stroller and check in advance if the path is good for a stroller.
Lastly, don't forget to check whether there is a chance for security accidents at the place you're visiting. It's your first time to visit there.
