I think I spend a lot of money to show off, to be self-satisfied, to look good to someone.
A couple of million-a-piece outfit is used for show-off or self-satisfaction, and the clothes that can be worn under certain circumstances seem to be trying to look good on people.
For example, I think that's the case when you don't wear anything that stands out more than a bride at a wedding, but you usually wear a black suit at a funeral.
