In my case, it is not that easy to stop eating foods because I have a habit of not remaining foods. Even though I feel full, I don't stop consuming something that is in front of me. And the main problem is when I eat desserts including much more sugar and fats after I eat rice. However, it is clear that when I saw the others seems to stop eating, then I quit eating. But it's not the radical solution. So, the solution of the overeating is reducing the possibilities of eating by putting small amounts of foods. Once the snacks or desserts are removed from my sights, I don't think about it anymore. If I want to eat more, then I have to stand up and move toward to reach them. So it's hard to eat more. Furthermore, The additional resolution of ceasing eating can be preparing less kind of foods when we dine. It was proved that it is true that when we see various kinds of food, we are likely to eat more by psychological research findings.

I have the same sentiments as you. I am also the type of person who doesn't want to leave any food and will consume whatever is in front of me. It is very hard to control, especially if we see appetizing food in front of us. So, I think the solutions that you've mentioned can really help when it comes to controlling food intake.
