The sentence above tells that we ourselves make our own lives.

As good architects make good buildings, so good makers of the live make good lives. As architects draw a detailed plan before construction, so we should make specific and detailed plans about our lives.

And we mustn't forget about architects' deligence to monitor every process, to follow through the construction projects. Likewise we need to do our best to put our plan for our lives into practice.

The quote actually contradicts the idea of destiny. Destiny is the force that some people think controls what happens in the future, and which cannot be influenced by people.
However, I prefer to believe that we make our own paths and that our decisions now will surely affect our lives in the future.
