I strongly oppose the idea that monkeypox will be equivalent to COVID-19. The reason is the infection process. COVID-19 was highly contagious from the aerial infection, which can quickly spread from minimal to no interaction. However, monkeypox is different as physical interaction is required for infection. Also, there are vaccines for monkeypox, which proved to be highly effective. Vaccine availability makes monkey pox different from COVID-19. I believe many experts are overreacting to monkeypox because many felt the high number of COVID-19 fatalities was from a lukewarm response. Ironically, this reaction makes the South Korean government well-prepared for the monkeypox. The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency officially designated monkeypox as a level 2 communicable disease even with a single infectious case. It means that the hospital must report monkeypox cases to the agency within 24 hours. Also, a high level of quarantine is required to prevent the disease.
